Sackler Gallery Central Atrium. A portrait of The Buddha is on a wall and a symbolic display of hanging monkeys, each monkey being the word "monkey in a different language" hangs in the central atrium of the Sackler Gallery. With nearly all of the gallery being underground, teh atrium also serves as a skylight to bring natural sunlight down several levels. The Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, located behind the Smithsonian Castle, showcases ancient and contemporary Asian art. The gallery was founded in 1982 after a major gift of artifacts and funding by Arthur M. Sackler. It is run by the Smithsonian Institution.
