National Archives Washington DC The Future Statue

WASHINGTON DC, United States — "The Future," a 12-foot limestone statue by Robert Aitken, stands at the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance of the National Archives Building. Created in 1935, this allegorical female figure holds an open book and manuscripts, with Shakespeare's quote "What is Past is Prologue" inscribed on its base as insisted by architect John Russell Pope.
