Entrance Hall of the Monastery of Sao Vicente de Fora in Lisbon Portugal
LISBON, Portugal - The Monastery's entrance hall is ornately decorated in the 18th century Baroque style, with the ceiling painted by Vicenzo Baccarelli (1682-1745), an Italian painter who introduced the trompe l'oeil style to Portugal. The Monastery of São Vicente de Fora is a 17th-century church and monastery in the Alfama neighborhood of Lisbon. It features ornately decorated sections in the Baroque style as well as the Braganza Pantheon, where the kings who ruled Portugal between 1640 and 1910 are interred.
